The 10th edition of the YES Talks, entitled Precision in Every Pulse, will take place on the 13th of April 2024, at CIM-FMUP - Centro de Investigação Médica da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto, Portugal. It will offer scientific lectures lasting from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm GMT and Hands-on Workshops, which will start at 5.30 pm GMT.

On the 10th YES Talk you will have the unique opportunity to join us for a symphony of insights, where cutting-edge ideas meet the heartbeat of Vascular Surgery. Here, you will be able to learn from renowned experts in the field, such as Professor Mauro Gargiulo and Professor Armando Mansilha.

Prof. Mauro Gargiulo

Professor Mauro Gargiulo is a renowned figure in Vascular Surgery, boasting a distinguished career marked by extensive expertise and notable contributions to the field. As Full Professor of Vascular Surgery at the University of Bologna since 2015, he excels in academic instruction and clinical practice.

Graduating in Medicine and Surgery in the University of Bologna in 1985, Professor Gargiulo achieved a Doctorate of Research in Thoraco-Cardiovascular Surgical Disciplines in 1994. With over 400 published papers, he demonstrates a commitment to advancing arterial and venous vascular disease understanding and treatment.

Professor Gargiulo served as President of The European Society for Vascular Surgery in 2022. He also serves as a Board Member of the University of Bologna since 2021.

In this session, Professor Mauro Gargiulo discusses aortic aneurysms. He will cover various techniques, providing valuable insights into their treatment.







Prof. Armando Mansilha

Professor Armando Mansilha is a distinguished expert in Angiology and Vascular Surgery. He is currently the director of the Angiology Department at São João University Hospital and holds the prestigious position of Full Professor of Angiology and Vascular Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of Universidade do Porto (FMUP).

His extensive leadership roles include serving as President of the Angiology and Vascular Surgery Section of the Portuguese Medical Association, President of the European Society for Vascular Surgery, President Elect of the International Union of Angiology, and Deputy President Elect of the European Society for Vascular Surgery.

In his session, Professor Mansilha will explore the intricate nuances surrounding the pivotal subjects of carotid stenosis and stroke, offering in-depth analysis and comprehensive insights into these critical areas of vascular pathology.

To conclude your registration and secure your placement at the scientific lectures and/or Workshops, you are required to pay the entrance fee of 8,00 EUR for the Premium Ticket (it grants access to two Scientific Lectures, the Dare to Win Competition, one hands-on Workshop, one coffee-break and the conference bag) or 4,00 EUR for the Standard Ticket (it grants access to two Scientific Lectures, the Dare to Win Competition, one coffee-break and the conference bag.).

Previous Editions


1st YES Talk

The 1st edition of YES Talks was held on March 27th 2014, at ICBAS / FFUP complex.

The theme of this edition was Chronic Pain and it was attended by Professor Castro Lopes, an Associate Professor at FMUP and director of the Pain Unit at FMUP. Moreover, we were honored with the presence of Professor Daniel Moura, Farmacology Professor at FMUP.



2nd YES Talk


The 2nd edition of YES Talks was held on April 15th 2015, at Almeida Garrett Library.

This year the theme was Interventional Radiology, a subspecialty of Radiology that grows exponentially in its diagnostic and therapeutic applications. It was attended by Dr. Nuno Silva, specialist of the Radiology Department of the São João Hospital Centre, and by Dr. Miguel Madureira, specialist in the same centre.



3rd YES Talk


The 3rd edition of the YES Talks, entitled “Reaching for the Heart”, took place on the 27th of April 2016, at Biblioteca Municipal Almeida Garrett, in Porto.

In this edition, participants had the opportunity to attend a lecture given by Professor Alain Carpentier, recipient of the 2007 Lasker Award, and Dr. João Lima, professor of Medicine, Radiology and Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.



4th YES Talk


The 4th edition of YES Talks, which was held on April 26th 2017 at the António de Almeida Foundation, was attended by Professor Enrico Lopriore, from the Willem Alexander Children's Hospital of Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), Professor Alexandra Matias and Dr. Teresa Castro, from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto and Dr. Carlota Rodó Rodriguez, from the unit of Fetal Medicine, Department of Obstetrics at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital. This YES Talk was dedicated to Multiple Pregnancy.



5th YES Talk


The 5th edition of the YES Talks, entitled “Step into the Future”, took place on April 4th 2018, at 14h30, at Biblioteca Municipal Almeida Garrett, in Porto.

Students had the opportunity to attend lectures on the issue of Robotic Surgery given by Dr. Carlos Vaz and Dr. Giulia Veronesi and to broaden their horizons in the Surgery field.



6th YES Talk


The 6th edition of the YES Talks, entitled "In the blink of an eye", took place on the 3rd of April 2019, at 14h00, at Biblioteca Municipal Almeida Garrett, in Porto.

On the 6th YES Talk, participants had the unique opportunity to get to know more about the recent advances in Ophthalmology, by learning from renowned experts in the field, such as Professor Domagoj Ivastinovic (Graz University, Austria) and Raquel Santiago (University of Coimbra,Portugal).



7th YES Talk


The 7th edition of the YES Talks, entitled "Closer to the Edge", took place on the 24th of April 2021, at 14h00, at CIM-FMUP - Centro de Investigação Médica da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto, Portugal.

On the 7th YES Talk, participants had the unique opportunity to get to know more about the recent advances in Intensive Medicine, a field which was brought to the limelight by the COVID-19 pandemic. The two lectures were conducted by renowned experts in the field: Professor Arjen Slooter (UMC Utrecht, The Netherlands) described his research on delirium in the ICU and Professor Roberto Roncon Albuquerque (University of Porto, Portugal) talked about his clinical experience and research with ECMO.



8th YES Talk


The 8th edition of the YES Talks, entitled "A Trip Down GI Lane", took place on the 9th of April 2022, at 2.30 pm, at CIM-FMUP - Centro de Investigação Médica da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto, Portugal.

On the 8th YES Talk, participants had the unique opportunity to get to know more about the recent advances in Gastroenterology. The two lectures were conducted by renowned experts in the field: Professor Ricardo Rio-Tinto (Champalimaud Foundation, Portugal) described a innovative approach for the treatment of esophageal diverticula with a device which uses electromagnetism and Professor Nastazja Pilonis (Maria Sklodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology, Poland) talked about different approaches for Barrett’s esophagus surveillance, such as the Cytosponge.



9th YES Talk


The 9th edition of the YES Talks, entitled “Next Step: Neurotech!”, took place on the 15th of April 2023, at 3.00 pm, at CIM-FMUP - Centro de Investigação Médica da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto, Portugal.

On the 9th YES Talk, participants had the unique opportunity to get to know more about the recent advances in Biotechnology applied to the field of Neurosciences. The two lectures were conducted by renowned experts in the field: Professor Ujwal Chaudhary and Professor Filipe Quinaz.
